Log Book Query
Hi,
I have seen a car for sale on Autotrader. I've been to view the car and happy with it and now completed a HPI check which is all clear.
Now the issue. The guy selling the car is a dealer that trades trucks\lorries but has been using the car as his own but not registered it.
He said he bought it 6 months ago from BMW Alphabet who had it from new.
HPI report shows:
Year manufactured 2008
Current keeper acquired on 07-Oct-2008
Date of first registration in the UK 07-Oct-2008
Number of keepers before current keeper 0
The dealer has the whole log book and all the relevant car paperwork ie Service History, Handbook, keys etc.
The New keeper supplement has his name on it and the log book isn't signed by the original regisitered keeper.
He said he filled the New Keeper Supplement to get the Road Tax but shouldnt he have filled in the Dealer part or something and returned it to the DVLA.
Is this ok. I understand The registered keeper doesnt nessesarily mean the owner.

Excellent advice - and there are hundreds/thousands more "pebbles on the beach", so don't "fall in love" with this one that is not quite "right"!0

Its possible the car's a lemon, and the dealer is selling it privately as not to have to give a warranty??0
-
check the V5 number against the ones listed here

afaik traders fill in the traders/dealer section so it wont show another owner on the v5
sounds dodgy to me0 -
Fos us dealers to tax a car, but without registering it there is a naughty way of doing it - we fill out the New Keeper suppliment in our name. Most Post Offices dont allow you to do this, but some do.
We do this on the cars we run.0 -
I've never yet come across a 100% honest car dealer. :think:0
