    Hi All, New here.

Though you all might be interested in my friends dilemma recently. My friend and his girlfriend both get paid on the 26th each month, and then their money transfers to a joint account to pay their bills. Normally this is cleared by the 1st/2nd to pay all standing orders, etc.

Well last month they ran into trouble when only one lot of their salaries transferred in time, and the other did not complete until after the 2nd March. By the time they had realised this, their bank, A&L, had cancelled a DD and a standing order because of lack of funds in the account. So suprise suprise, the bank charged them £25 for each cancellation, so £50 in total!!

Then when the money transfer completed the day after, he was then able to contact the relevant organisations to sort out the payments. He did phone the bank who said it wasn't their fault. They refunded £25 but thats all!

I know its his duty to check the money is there for DD's and SO's, but seems a bit harsh to me.

Just interested in your comments and if anyone has heard of this type of thing before.

If you really must juggle money between accounts, surely it's your responsibility to ensure that you know when bills are due and make all necessary arrangements for the funds to be present.

THe OP as for comment and I pointed out this is common.

Some just don't manage their cash flow in a way to avoid these problems.

Some it is living pay day to pay day so have no spare funds.

Some just don't factor that their company might pay late some times.

In most cases it is possible to manage the cash flow so these things don't cause you grief.
(make your life easy don't build in points of potential failure)

If the OP friends got paid late(contractualy) and they incured costs then they should claim from their employer.

If claiming from the employer is going to be a problem then move the payment dates or put a buffer in the joint account.

    Oh bug*er!
I've just realised there are 31 days this month and I only got paid enough for 30.416666666 days because my employers only pay me 12 times a year. How much compensation do you think would be reasonable?
