Best place to buy DIY goods at best price

Hi all,
I hope this hasn't been cpvered before as I couldn't find it. I hope to renovate a whole house soon so I will need lots of supplies.

I am aware of Screwfix http://www.screwfix.com

can anyone else recommend any others or a good way to get building supplies at a good price ?

Thanks

Many of your 'consumables' (white spirit, sandpaper, paintbrushes) etc are cheaper from places like wilko's, poundstretcher etc rather than B+Q.

Asda is also very cheap for the basics. Also worth checking tool prices in Argos as the drill I bought from Screwfix for £45 was only £30 in their catalogue (normal price, not a promo).

Much though I love screwfix they tend to percieve themselves as being for the professional builder so things like hacksaws are well made and cost the best part of £10 whereas B&Q can do you a value one for under £5. Sometimes if you only need to use something once so the DIY stores are sometimes a better bet.

On the whole B&Q tend to be dearer than Screwfix. It's only a few items in the catalogue that are more expensive then B&Q and that tends to be down to a difference in quality.

Wilkisons is good but I also like my local ironmonger, not only goods are reasonable priced but you can also get free advice or at least we do.

I've always found it worthwhile checking out B & Q for good prices, and not their website, but in store. They often beat screwfix on the fancier items, but screwfix is definetely better for trade pricing.
