Student Finance and Pensions

Options
I am a widow with a daughter hoping to start university. Part of my husband's occupational pension is paid in her name (just above the tax threshold), although it is paid into my bank account. Is it necessary to declare this as her income when applying for a maintenance loan and/or grant?
Also, are my personal pension contributions deducted from my income when assessing the household income for student finance. Any help over this would be much appreciated.

Assuming your daughter isn't assessed as an independent student then her funding will be based on your income and not hers.

No, she will not be counted as independent student (18years old and living at home). I know that her earnings in part time work are not included, but I was wondeing if the pension would be counted as taxable unearned income?

It would be counted as taxable unearned income, and should be declared in Section 8 of the PN1 form.

I think you should declare it as your daughter's income when applying for loans/grants, if she is living independently.
