Hi,
I Am currently Insuring 2 cars both with around 6 years no claims.
They are insured for both me and my wife to drive one is comprehensive and the other is third party I am paying around £1300 for both packages and im desperate to save money rather than throwing it away.
The cars currently insured are a 2001 focus and a 98 bmw 316 coupe, me and my wife are both over 25.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some insurers offer a multi car discount like Direct Line, Admiral etc
You can also get private fleet policies but wont really help on your mixed level of insurance
Another option is that some insurers will give you a discount for the "second vehicle" of the property - Privilege offer this as long as the policyholder is female, the car is below a certain group etc.All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Oh my life. I have to say I think you are being ripped off big time. I can't imagine how any co can charge that much for those 2 cars you mention. You really need to do some shopping around. Currently my husband and I have insured, a 2002 focus 1.6 (lowish group) and a 2004 Nissan 350Z (highest group-19 I think) He has fully comprehensive cover on both cars with myself as a named driver, we are both over 30 and pay £650(ish) for both cars insured on seperate policies but both policies are with ASDA. Also he protects his NCB.
When I call the ins co's I give details of one car, then the other and get seperate quotes. I then ask how much discount will we get if we insure both cars with them.
I would advise you to get your yellow pages and call as many freephone numbers as your patience allows. I don't personally like online search engines for insurance as you have to call them to add/remove or amend certain things they assume then the price goes up. I do this every year for both cars and a bike and it works well.
HTH:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Sounds like a lot. We insure a 2002 Volvo V40 and a 1994 Volvo 940 both with full business use and it costs about £550 in total. Both have protected NCD.0

It does depend where the OP lives. When I had a Liverpool postcode I paid about £1300 for two cars..... when we moved to Lancaster it halved it!
However, I wouldn't suggest moving house as a good way to get cheaper insurance! However, you can perhaps do some things such as looking at where you store the cars overnight, whether they are used for business use, what alarm they have, larger excess etc. Martin covers this in his car insurance article so you may want to have a look.0 -
Its all well different posters giving specifics about their own vehicles and experiences yet many factors will apply in applying the premiums - age, age of car, cost, mileage, address, market conditions etc.
The only real advice that can be given is..... shop around.
Use a few comparison sites then check out the RBSI group seperately (as they dont commit to these comparison sites, ie direct line, churchill, tesco etc.) I believe Barclays are doing a deal where they will reduce their quote by up to £100 to beat your renewal and give you £50 if their initial quote is higher than yours.
Then get yourself over to Quidco to see what you can get for cashback on the deals. Think Lloyds is the current highest at £110
Happy hunting......0
