PPI reclaim

I wondered if anyone could answer a question for me. I took out a loan in 2002 and repaid it early in 2005 I did have PPI with it but recall that I never opted for it it just came as part of the loan. I sent A & L a letter back in September with the details but I didn't have the policy number they ignored the letter and I recently resent it to Santander as they now own A & L but they have written back to me saying that as it was over 6 years ago they cannot provide me with a copy of the loan agreement. If I hadn't paid it early it would only have been cleared November 2007 instead I cleared the loan January 2005. Is this correct that they would no longer have the paperwork or am I being fobbed off.
Thanks

Hi there
In regards of this loan, do you have any old banking statements inthe house somewhere, if so check them out for the account number, when you paid monthly loan repayments, the account number would be shown next to the loan repayments.
So just as long as you have the account number, you can continue to reclaim.
However, if the loan was cleared in 2005, they may hold so much of the details up to settlement, so you could contact them about this just to make sure.
Basically they are to hold your info going far back as 5/6 years.
I would therefore, just give it a try with maybe requesting for a Subject access request (SAR), where they have 40 days to comply and send anything they may still hold on you, if they are unable to do so then they must write to explain why.
There is a charge of £10 postal order or cheque payment for this request, details with SAR template letter here:

But do check if you any old banking statements for the account number where you can then write back to them, if they still don't do anything then contact the Financial ombudsman service (FOS), and ask if they can help.
If you do online banking and still with the same bank from when you taken the loan out, and if the loan was being repaid out of your bank, then you should be able to go back as far as 6 years to check the statements out.
Its another way.
Good luck. The one and only "Dizzy Di"
