That's better than your cakes being nicked
Seriously though, you should look into installing a simple/crude outdoor shower, just in case. A lot of houses round here have them, for surfers to stand under and rinse off their wetsuits and remove them outside.
I've always thought that farmer-types should have a dressing/undressing and shower room right by the door - I'd insist on it if I married a farmer. They'd not be allowed into the house with farmy stuff clinging to them.
Usually I'd use the hose, that what I've done traditionally, but we don't have an outside tap here (dozens of troughs and taps in feed room and dairy, but not outside) and so have to go in somewhere to attach a hose to go out...ok for gardening/washing equipment etc...no good if its you who needs washing! That will be changed when we have the kitchen done...
in the longer term there will be outside facilities, much nicer than the hose I'd have settled for today!0 -

Do it free, on Wordpress.com - no income from that, but once you've got a following and a goodly number of posts, you can always at some future point export all the stories and put them on your own domain name .... but Wordpress.com's an easy way to scribble stuff down without any expertise/time or cost.
You should go into business advising all of us you know.
I am warming to the idea of a blog....especially if in the future it could generate a little income/advertising for stuff.
edit: looking at wordpress now...its full of words and concepts I don't understand...text editor, ftp client, minimum requirements, shell access......its all Glaswegian to me!0 -

Pick a name - a catchy name that represents your keyword focus of your blog. Now, those words will be the name of your blog, e.g. TheNameYouThoughtOf
When you sign up with http://www.wordpress.com (note this isn't the .org version) you just head for a free account - and for your username, use TheNameYouThoughtOf - and then your web address would automatically then become: http://TheNameYouThoughtOf.wordpress.com
TheNameYouThoughtOf is before the .wordpress bit - this is called a sub-domain (you don't need to worry about this).
So, just sign up - head for free, free, free. And it'll happen.
Then you'll be staring at a page similar to MS Word and you just need to type stuff and see what happens.
You can't break anything.
I've not logged onto wordpress for about 4 years (I was suspended).
Now, the rules: ONE simple rule - do not ever promote any other website or link to any other website at all. Just write stuff.
The one simple rule can be understood etc later, at which point you'll learn it's not quite like that. But, for now, just think that you are there to write - and not put any links to anywhere.
This is just to get you jotting down your stuff while it's happening. It's no good in 2 years thinking you wish you'd written stuff down as you now can't remember it all... just scribble so you don't forget.
Don't worry about promoting it, or people following you .... just write like a diary and jot your stuff down.0 -

Now I'm distracted from thinking of a name by this! Why?:D
possible name suggestions welcomed from all nice people...0 -
The name is a s0d.
You have to try to come up with something as short as possible, or cute/catchy/memorable - and/or something that contains relevant keywords for the subject.
If you were going to google randomly for information about smallholdings, or whatever it is your place is called, what words would you use?
What're you doing there? Building something? Making something?
Sometimes the name's the hardest bit.
Twists on popular names will already be taken: e.g. TheGoodLife, DarlingBudsOfMayDiaries0 -
I'm going to go against PasturesNew here, if you go for a free web blog site, I would recommend the free blog site Blogger.com over wordpress, because although wordpress is a better platform, Blogger is owned by Google, and you can monetize it via adsence very easily (in fact, it is the easiest way to get accepted on adsence).“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Tom is correct, you can monetise. However, I find Blogger more confusing and more dated-looking. Also, if one's longer-term plans might be to take the content onto your own hosted blog, then the Wordpress interface will be mostly the same and the words are easily exported/imported.
Also, I know blogger is owned by Google, but it's often considered that Google actually treats Wordpress blogs more favourably than blogger ones.
Wordpress, in the longer-term (on own-hosted versions) also has more plugins and options.
So, I'd still stand by Wordpress.0 -
One idea might be to use the name of your place, or the name you'd like it to be.
LostInRatesFarm.wordpress.com style.
No idea if you've got names in your head you'd like to rename to, or plans for a business name in the future. All could work well.
After today, how about: NakedFarmersWife?0 -
LIR - That post was so funny, you really have a way with words..it certainly brightened up my day!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0
