It's not bad here, we can get the best of both worlds with a fairly easy commute into London plus lower house prices than those seen in the official commuter belt but on the downside, average earnings around here are not that high.

North Walsham is actually the next county over and a fair distance from us (I had to do a search on it to see where it was!), we are right on the border with Essex.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Earnings the same here Sue. No, I realised you we re in Suffolk. Another story for you. Hip I was in my 3 piece suit and shoulder length hair. I was up there as a rep again in the 70`s. Stayed at an hotel in Ipswich, one that would have been glorious in the1800`s but had seen better days.

A very impressive wide stairway lead from the bedrooms down to the ground floor. As I went down to dinner, my heel caught into the flare on my trousers. Whoosh! I was propelled down those stairs. Bumping from one to another. Bruising evey bone I had until I reached the ground floor. But cool presided over pain. I coolly stood up, wince, breathless and walked as though nothing had happened into the restaurant.

Strange thing is that we can be in London (well the outskirts anyway by car - 1 hour and 10 mins to London Liverpool street by train) in just over an hour.....yet we are classed as being just outside the commuter belt for house prices.

Hence why a fair few live here and work near or in London....

I am seriously considering living in Leicester for part of the week after the summer.....maybe 3 days........and it's an hour from St Pancras.....very expensive trip though.
I don't really want to but it's up for consideration due to manufacturing hassles.

Did it once at a wedding, slipped on the stairs and fell out of my top.

3 days commuting is really expensive, not enough to get a weekly season ticket so hellish daily prices. Unless you travel after 9.30 or book each train well in advance.

Is brighton to leicester doable? thameslink straight into St P?

lir wonder's how much a very expensive train ticket is.

Yesterday up at crufts thought how beautiful it is around birmingham. Would be happy toddling around some of that countryside on a horse. But probably totally unfeasable for DH. I love the local accent too.

Even as a local, I am amazed at how in the midlands you can be in a very urban area, & within a very short distance you can be in some really delightful countryside. I've started to notice a lot more lovely scenery in recent years, & started loving the area a lot more.

& not only that, there is a lot of heritage around here too.

ETA lir if I'd known you were up here, I could have treated you to a couple of hours of local chattiness & accent!
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.
