My challenge is actually 5 years with a no spend on clothes (with allowances for work clothes, undergarments and shoes). In a month and a wekk, I'll have completed 2 years! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Male or a gay woman.
I quite fancy the Newgate thing.
As for the rest........Retail is the only therapy that works0 -

Well you can't be that strange, they are both on my extended "to do" list. Ben Goldacre more so than the diary, which has been on my to read list for about 20 years.
ETA: Jack the Ripper is still the source of the greatest true crime fascination, though the new books about Fritzl are also popular.lemonjelly wrote: »The biography of James Berry, Victorian hangman http://www.amazon.co.uk/Executioner-Chronicles-James-Victorian-Hangman/dp/0750934085/ref=sr_1_6?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1283115255&sr=1-6
Don't know about the above book, but on a similar theme, I've heard good things about this one from several readers:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Executioner-Pierrepoint-Albert/dp/0340717017/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1283116764&sr=8-15
The most popular true crime book of the last couple of years is probably this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Suspicions-Mr-Whicher-Murder-House/dp/0747596484/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1283117081&sr=1-1
Most people giving it bad reviews think it is a novel, which it isn't.

They are excellent. Thank you for calling me impeccable. I will try not to fail with future book recommendations.

Viva, the hardback Bugliosi book comes with a dvd I believe. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
I read the Pierrepoint book and was sort of impressed how banal it was.
Got up, hung somebody........
I can't imagine a victorian executioner is any different
Your reading list is very "young" Lemon.
