The magnolias this year have been amazing too....there is one near.....Iwerne Minster (I think) in dorset I pass sometimes and last time I almost slammed the brakes on to see it better....but most of them seem extra-ordinary this year. My friend has one of the less common magnolias...tiny little white flowers, and that hasn't been so great this year though, but last year it outperformed every other tree I saw so it deserves a break.

Its such an exiting year for gardens and nature!

Little buds are appearing on my cherry blossom tree!:j Leaves have sprouted through. It didn't blossom last year (too young), so this is the first year. Only a matter of time til I'm on here being all  about the blossom on my car/in the house etc.
lir the local paper did a thing getting locals to send in photos of their magnolias seeing as they were all out, & were innundated.

I've just planted a load of bedding plants and my friend has told me I'm a week too early :(

Wouldn't woory about it. As a beginner/amateur/someone who doesn't really know what they're doing, I just put seeds in some mud/compost, give em some water evry now & again & they grow!:) They do all the work themselves actually! My feeling is that a week is neither here nor there & it'll all be fine.:)
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

I didn't think there would be such a diference, Davesnave, between your location and mine! Bad luck about the losse, it has been pretty hard, even for stuff in the ground. I can't remember our naked ladies now...is that my memory or have we lost them ? (naked ladies is so much a nicer name that nerines! )

The peonies are aching to pop, the earliest ones, now...some are still angry red shoots pushing through, angry at being woken up from winter. Most are half way between, greening um and in leaf. Our peonies are many fairly sombre burgundies, legacy of previous gardener, but its teaching me t appreciate darker colours, particularly for adding depth at the back of borders. I have a penchant for pale pinks, whites and peaches, all a little insipid if not tempered. but buying plants simply to temper your own taste is a expensive.

Our tree peonies died this year. :(

and another thing...the bin man in birmingham thread reminded me...I got a note telling me off for not cleaning my recycling well enough (I know, yuk, but it was a huge dog food can fed to the dogs when i had a friend for supper instead of their normal food, it was really hard to clean), so last week i ran out and told the guy I had rinsed it, and brushed it using the last of the washing up water....his suggestion was to ut everything through the dishwasher ...''Oh, and another thing'' he said. ''please can you separate the stuff in the recycling bin by putting it in plastic bags?'' s we were expressly told not to do a few months ago...i pointed out that plastic bag use was also not ''green'' and that at 5 p a pop, no way! besides which I am entirely smugly resplendent in my hessian wonders now....we have about half a dozen in each car .....some bloody saving that is.

Interesting that you've now nearon 2000 posts about being nicer than nice.

Just how "nice" are you gonna get? What's your target??

Of course this thread need not exist at all if people weren't so un-nice..

I hope you break the last record you had going - If you could all get sponsered and gave it to charity, which would be really "nice" - that would be really "Great" and of some benefit to some people.

we already were sponsoring sort of nice, having done something privately and sponsored some of the extraordinarily nice people here who do nice sponsorship type thingies. I hope we get so nice the board turns into sugar. And spice.

So you had a "nice" thread now replaced by the current "nicer" thread - even better - so who's the nicest of them all:o

    Of course, It never will.

When you say you've sponsered all this "niceness" - have any of you, apart from showing appreciation to Nice posters which is well merited (ie nice people), have any of you actually parted with cash for a good cause?

Or are you just argueing the toss?:o

I suggest you set up some kind of Marathon re this thread and raise money whilst you're at it,,, anyway.

    How about it??

Maybe donate it to un- nice people in order to help them see what kindness and compassion can bring to their lives??
