Barclays Spelt my middle name wrong!

Called in their branch three weeks ago with my passport and a utility bill in hand to be handed an application pack, guy photocopied my passport and utility bill and stamped it etc..

I filled out the application form in black ink printed capitals and sent it off, fast forward to today my card arrives all ok...

I register for online banking and notice my second middle name is missing the "s" on the end.

My full name is as follows, First name, middle name, second middle name and surname.

my seccond middle name is Harries but they have put it down as Harrie, how they managed that is beyond me!

So my question is when i call into my local branch tomorrow with my id again will they correct it there and then or is this going to be a problem?

Unless you use the middle name, in full, on a regular basis ...... why a problem?

The initial is the same ......... all most of us use?

Will it not cause a problem later down the line?

Say i need to reset security or i apply for addtional services later down the line?

Would it not cause a problem with future credit checks etc...?

Just pop into Branch, they should sort it there and then, will probably make a phone call or two. Better to be safe.

So just get them to correct it, tomorrow, if you feel it might have residual effect?

My Bank seem to drop my middle name to an initial - or altogether, at whim. The only problem it's ever created is when a new account doesn't link to my Portfolio .... because they used the full name / address / dob to link. caused them so many problems they've now reduced the data to make the match.

Thats what i was thinking, would rather sort it now than a year or two down the line. No big deal i guess.

When I was added to my wifes account Lloyds got my first name wrong on all cards and cheque books. We requested on a number of times to get the details changed but not joy.

I have now closed all of my accounts and removed my name from our joint account........not just due to the naming problems but other banking issues

I would pop into the bank and ask for it to be changed on the computer. I had a similar name problem in the pass. My first name initial is the same as my brothers so bank statments and cards would say A Surname.

To correct this I want down the bank and changed mine to MISS A B Surname. So there would be no confusion.
  • I had a problem with initials - caused issues with cheques

But yours is unlikely to cause problems - but it is easy enough to get fixed

Good luck ... this brings back memories!

When my wife popped into Barclays and asked for her name to be changed following our marriage, they made more mess than you would have thought humanly possible. Internet banking: access revoked. Overdraft: vanished. Account magically "upgraded" to a premium one with a monthly fee. And, yes, they got her new name wrong as well. It took over 3 months to undo the damage.

You think that's bad? I filled in my application for a Santander/Abbey account in block capitals as 'MR' Benoit and put 'MALE' where it asks gender and got a debit card in the post with MRS Benoit embossed on it, even though my full first name was also on it which is clearly a Male name. I mean !!!!!! really?

I had to go in branch with all my ID again to change the title on my account and get a new card sent out to me. Even the staff could not work out how they could have made such a silly mistake when my full first name was also written on the card & is a name that you just could not mistake for a female name, although i suppose that depends on how many women you know called Dave. :rotfl::rotfl:
