BT taking the mickey

Options
Got the latest bill from BT, included in the amount owed is the advanced billing for next three months line rental and internet. This has had the effect of falsley raising the amount owed by £110plus!!!

Included in the bill was a letter stating that our DD is being increased due to the amount owed. Now, if the advanced billing was not there we would only be about £40 in the red (due to the odd billed phone call and kids racking up extra internet use).

I will be getting in touch to find out how a falsley inflated bill has caused the request for increased DD payment (they are asking for double what we pay now, funny old thing) seems a bit unfair to me. Just wondering if this has happened to others.

Not having a go at BT, we're quite happy with the service provided, but this billing sucks the big one. I notice there's a BT rep out there, be interested in what they have to say as well.

Change to Whole Bill Direct Debit.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

BT always charge in advance for line rental and other services so the bill will be correct but it sounds like your on the dreaded monthly payment plan ( a set amount each month by dd on same date each month with a quarterley statement)

Do as heinz says and switch to whole bill dd . That way you pay off your bill every month/quarter.

It also sounds like you paying a lot for your services with BT so it may be cheaper for you to switch providers or because you say your happy with BT service you may be able to get a better deal from BT You can call BT Customer options team on 0800800030 opt 1 and ask for a better deal.

Thanks for the replies, have not long been off the phone and changed to monthly whole bill DD, done painlessly by Valerie in the call centre.

The payments may seem high but that was 3 months worth of internet and call plan, both services we are happy with. The savings on calls to relatives in Australia and Spain, plus the coverage that the BT hub gives compared to previous companies we were with make it worthwhile. There may well be cheaper, but theres less choice for quality services up here in the Highlands.

That said, if something comes along that's better then we'll happily change.

Now, just make sure you have changed your payment method and they have not put you onto a new 'contract' without your knowledge...

Better still, write to them and confirm the change of payment method and that thsi is under your existing contract. Keep a copy...

Thanks for the advice DVardis, did all that when on the phone to them so we have dates contracts expire. T'internet is the first one in July, so will be seeing if anything better is out there then....you never know, they may have updated the local exchange to handle more banwidth by then (not holding my breath though!).
