Painting a skirting board

I'm trying to gloss my skirting boards that have a laminate wood beading along the bottom. I've tried putting masking tape along the beading but it seems to seep through a leave a trail of gloss that takes a load of scrubbing and ends up ruining my gloss! Any tips?

You need a decent quality brush - one with some length in the bristles. Small amounts of paint. You may also want to thin the paint out slightly with some white spirit so that is is less gluuppy. And a steady hand!

use non drip paint and the trick is not to paint right to the line. leave a few mm gap.
assuming you are painting white over white.

ormus has got the right idea. Put the masking tape as before, but don't try to get right to the edge . No one ( unless they lie on the floor , 6 inches away from skirting )
will see that you have left a gap

Agree with the above (apart from the non-drip gloss which I hate with a passion but its down to individual choice - I like the old fashioned runny stuff). You are putting the paint on too thickly if its running all over the place. Two thin coats are better than one thick one especially with wet'n'dry between coats!
