Really need some help and advice to sort out a problem with paypal. In November i attempted to transfer £140.00 from my paypal account into a bank account. This appeared to be all ok, however when i went to check the balance on the account my card was eaten by the machine. I visted the bank and was informed that as the account i had attempted to use had never been activated (I had set the account up 12mnths prior for a specific purpose, had not needed it in the end, but the 12mnths on i had reason to start to use it) The bank informed me that the account was actually no longer on file so no money would have transferred and the funds should show back in my paypal account.
Since November I have been chasing paypal as they have not returned the money. They requested a statement from the bank to the above effect which i gave them, they have then fobbed me off with various 'different department still chasing' type excuses.
Today they informed me that they can not find out what has happened anf have therefor washed their hands of the matter!
I am still £140.00 down and with no way of recovering the money! what can i do?

Something Doesn't quite add up. I'm confused as you can only transfer to the bank account that is linked to the Paypal account. So that must have been active at some point. If the account wasn't active the money would have been automatically returned.
Was the BA information actually correct?

I had intended to start to use funds in my paypal account from selling bits and pieces to save towards a item so used this account to keep it seperate from other money. I changed my Bank account That was linked to my paypal account to this one that was apparently not active, I am also confused as before doing this i put the card into a atm machiene to check i had the correct pin. The card worked this first time and showed a balance of £0 which i expected. It was only eaten after i attempted to transfer the money.
I am generally feeling confused about the situation, in the bank they showed me the screen and there was no account with those details, they did manage to find record of one having been applied for and acrd issued but not activated so account was closed. they have confirmed that the money should have automatically returned. but it hasnt.

The fact that Paypal (Europe) is based in Luxembourg, can only complicate things.
From their website...1.6 Notices to PayPal. Notices to PayPal made in connection with this Agreement must be sent by postal mail to PayPal’s head office: PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. & Cie, S.C.A. Attention: Legal Department 22-24 Boulevard Royal L-2449, Luxembourg.0 -
Time and time again pay pal cause people so many problems, holding onto peoples money for 58 days or losing it as per the OP's case. They know too well that they have the monoply when it comes to buying and selling online.
Although l moan about them to the cows come home, l like millions of others need them for my online business, however l hope that l can head them off should they ever feel the need to freeze my funds. I have a pay pal visa prepaid debit card, l transfer the money to the card rather than the bank, it reaches the card account by 2pm the following day, no waiting 5-7 working days also you dont have to wait until you have £50, and best of all once the money is in the card account it is the hands of the Royal Bank of Scotland and not paypal.
My way of playing them at their own game, well thats what l hope...lol0 -

Bet paypal could transfer it back before you could blink.0 -
This sounds more like a bank issue than a paypal issue. You gave paypal details of a bank account that you had checked was up and running (you say your card and PIN worked when you first tried it).
Bank deny that account was ever live, so why did you card and pin work then?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I agree with Soolin it sounds like a bank issue. If your PIN worked at some point the account was live so that's where the money went0

Thank you for the advice, after writting it all down here it occured to me it must be a bank issue as well, prob is what do i do now? The card and pin def worked because i was able to change the original pin to a more memorable pin and it showed a balance of £0 which i what i expected.
Problem now is how do i get my money back when the bank say there is no account?0
