PPI was never asked for

Take 2...(posted on the wrong forum section before)

Hi guys my mum took out a loan in 2007 and yes, I know she should have noticed by now. But she didn't bother looking I guess, anyway she finally saw her loan and realised that she was paying payment protection insurance. She is very disgruntled because she never asked for this, nor did they ask her, instead it seems as if it was simply added.

Any advice?

    Hi there

Good to see you got here, well done.

With the reasons your mum has, then I would give it a go.
I would also check for any other reasons that may also apply to her from the link here:
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance
There are template letters, I would use them as a guide and write in your own words if you want to, or use the templates if you want to.
They have 8 weeks in full to respond, keep at them, and post within the post office to receive a tracking number, to check the status of delivery.

You actually write to the ones who set up the loan, so if it was not set up direct by the lender, then write to whom did deal with it.

Do not worry about writing down the amounts though, they should provide these in a full detailed breakdown if successful, if not request they send them.

Hope this helps, please keep us posted and yell for help anytime, good luck.

Thanks for the response, well first point of call was to Lloyds loan service a few minutes ago. My mum explained to them that she had never asked for PPI and the response was an insistent "well you would have signed a form" and that form would have included the PPI details

So as far as they are concerned it's a non starter but have given her another number to call.

We have found a personal and our recommendations sheet which states "You have said you want to cover your monthly repayments in the event of your unemployment or your disability through accident or sickness. along with the adviser's name.

    Hi

I would not take anything seriously with what they say over the phone to be honest and personally I would keep everything in writing as part of the procedures of reclaiming.

Your mum still has her reasons, despite what they have said, which is probably a fob off as it was a telephone conversation.
They are probably hoping she will take it no further and that will put her off.

So if you can keep at them but keep it in writing, LLoyds are known to fob off with these responses.

    Good luck.

Thanks I anticipated they would stone wall
The other thing is she is self employed, however I can't seem to find an answer as to whether Lloyds even cover against self employment.
She arranged it in the bank, will the bank have the paper work?

Just a suggestion - if your mum have not got any details/paperwork of the loan, she could request a Subject access Request (SAR) if she wants to, they have 40 days to comply to send all they hold on her accounts, with loans credit cards the bank account and so on.
However, there is a charge of £10 cheque or postal order payment that you enclose with this SAR letter.
More details here with SAR template letter:
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1475553
I would check the policy out for this as well, to check if she would be covered for self employment, as some do and some do not.

The address for this request is here:

    LLOYDS TSB BANK PLC
    DSAR TEAM
    CUSTOMER SERVICES
    RECOVERY TEAM
    CHARLTON PLACE C57
    ANDOVER
    HAMPSHIRE
    SP10 1RE

for reclaiming PPI, the address here:

    Lloyds PPI
    Customer Care
    Lloyds TSB Insurance
    Tredegar Park
    Newport
    South Wales
    NP10 8SB

    Hope this helps.
