Marie Claire subscriber issue

I took out a year subscription with Marie Claire two months ago and with the April issue you are supposed to get a free Neal's Yard moisturiser. When my copy came the moisturiser was missing so I contacted them and was told subscribers don't get the free products. This is despite it being advertised in other magazines and available with all shop bought copies. It even mentions the free gift in the magazine in two places with one full page dedicated on how to use it!

I have other magazine subscriptions that don't penalise subscribers so why are Marie Claire able to get away with it?:mad:

Their T&C's do state:-

13Covermounts
If any of our magazines are put on sale in the UK containing a covermount gift or a supplement, you are not guaranteed to receive these covermounts or supplements.

I too was puzzled by the lack of free gift on my subscription mag, especially when it says inside the magazine that it should be there. I contacted IPC Media whom I had the subscription from and they said:

" The inclusion of these gifts is solely down to the individual promoter of the products, as the extra postage costs have to be absorbed by them.

Many advertisers throughout the year will approach us to include certain cover mounted gifts on our newsstand only issues; and sometimes only in specific stores or post code areas. In such instances we have not been able to include these in subscriber copies.

I must advise that the inclusion of cover mounted gifts has never been advertised as part of the subscription package, they have always been more of an added bonus as and when we have been able to include them"

But at the end of the day, the magazine states that it should be there! where do we stand?

At the end of the day your subscription contract says something different.

I would tend to believe a contract myself.
