What really used to wind me up was the "keep the change brigade", who would give you £20 for a £19.99 bill, and tell you to keep the change. I found that quite insulting and I'd honestly prefer nothing at all!

Totally agree with you Kira. I always used to make a point of ensuring that I returned their 5p or 10p to them as they obviously needed it more than me!

:rotfl:Thats soo funny. And strangely it was 9/10 the really objectionable folks who had had me running round like a slave with no please or thank yous, and even clicking fingers, who then dido the keep the change (1 or 2p). Upon occassion, i did indeed reply to the "keep the change" along the lines of "I couldnt possibly sir/madam, you obviously need it". Occassionally they then felt bad enough to leave a bit more, but sometimes they indignantly pr sheepishly gathered up their penny and huffed out.

Dont get me wrong. All customers quite entitled to leave nothing, and never had a problem with anyone doing so, and some of our customers came for a treat and coulndt afford to tip, its just the rudeness of some people that got to me sometimes!

My pet hate is when you pay by credit/debit card the entry to add a gratuity. I feel that this is discretionary and that the entry is asking for it as though it is a right.

I know a lot of waiting staff will press the no button before handing the machine to you but I dislike being faced by it.

Last night a group of family went out to Bella Italia last night in Milton Keynes and spent £160. Service was perfect, the food was good and a decent tip was on the way. When paying the bill I was faced with the "request" so the £20 tip I had ready became £10. If there had been any problem at all with the service it would have been nothing.

Likewise the so called service charge which is already added to the bill which I always get removed.

Most of my friends will not pay a tip when faced with this question when paying.

Why do it? It is so rude and I will certainly not be going back there again.
