Those of you with kitchen tiles, do you find it TOO cold?

We are knocking down a wall between our kitchen & dining room to make one large room. I dont want to put laminate down again as a dodgy washer has ruined the last 2 lots we have laid.
I had my heart set on large tiles but now I keep worrying it will be too cold? Am even contemplating vinyl now!!!
We have had tiles before in a previous house & I cant remember it being too much of a problem but my dad has tiles in his kitchen & its freezing!! :rotfl:
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

we have tiles in our kitchen and at this time of year, slippers are essential!
its ok in the summer though.
if I did it again would probably go for Karndean or similar as looks good and warmer.0 -
I have large ceramic tiles (is that what you meant?) in the kitchen and they look great and are reasonably easy to keep clean, but would have to agree at this time of year you wouldn't want to venture in there without something on your feet, but I'm not sure it is any colder than the lino in the bathroom.
Also if you drop something it doesn't stand a chance against the tiles, its likely to be smashed to bits and you'd be amazed how far the pieces scatter. Was reminded of this only last night when I dropped a very expensive knife and was horrified when the tiles buckled the blade!
Good luck with the remodelling.0 -
I guess Karndean would be about the same price to lay? Might have a rethink, thanks0

Any recommendations for cheap places to buy Karndean/Antico or Polyflor?0

Tiled kitchens can be cold and they also LOOK cold- watch out for that.0

I would never have ceramic tiles in a kitchen again - they are very cold in winter and mine were slippy when wet
Interested to hear about your laminate being spoiled by leaks though - we are hoping to move soon and I was planning on having an engineered hardwood floor and matching wood worktops in the kitchen we will need to put in - would that be a mistake?Downshifted

My hubby wont even contemplate laminate or wood floor now as it just bevelled when water got underneath. It was the proper bathroom/kitchen stuff too. In all fairness if our washer hadnt leaked it would have been fine but with the sink/dishwasher/washing machine all close by its too much of a risk to take for us again!
The amtico/karndean/polyflor tiles although expensive, look like real wood/stone. I def think I'm converted - just have to persuade hubby!0 -
