Help patching up a carpet please!

Just had a new fireplace fitted and alhough measurements were supposed to be the same approx as old fireplace, I now have a one inch gap between the carpet and the new fireplace.

I have a few pieces of the new carpet left - what would be the best way to cover the gap, cut some strips and gluing them in or use tape? There's a rug in front of the hearth but I would like the option to not have the rug there all the time so just wanted to fill the gap in the best way possible but I'm not that good at DIY.

Thanks

how about using some wooden beading that matches the fireplace all the way round the hearth to cover the gap?

Agreed - I wouldn't personally try to bodge the carpet back in - get a strip of wood that is wide enough to cover the gap, give it a nice coat of suitable stain/varnish/wax and nail or glue it into place. It would be a shame to have a lovely new fire looking shabby because the carpet doesn't fit.
