Help with measuring for loft ladder?

I am in the process of ordering a new loft ladder and wanted some help before I commit to buy.
Was thinking about this one here, which is an Abru Arrow 2 section wooden ladder.
It says on the specifications that the loft hatch should be: Minimum hatch size of 0.45m x 0.57m (WxD) but wanted to clear up which would be the width and which would be the depth (I am very simple).
My loft hatch is 55cm accross, i.e. the shortest side and 72cm at the longest. The position of the hatch means that the ladder would have to travel up into the loft along the short side (otherwise would have to ascend the ladder from the staircase).
Do you think this ladder will fit in this case?
All help appreciated.
Simple Bob.
