Home Networking Questions

My son wanted to set up a home networking system between our home pc and his netbook as he said it would enable him to use devices such as our printer and access folders on our home pc. I have managed to set up the network successfully using the wizard from control panel, and now have two questions.
1. neither I nor my son are sure how to actually go about him using the printer from his netbook, or accessing folders, so please could someone enlighten us on this?
2. I want to set up a recovery disk for my son's netbook but it doesn't have a cd/dvd drive built in. Is there a way to connect his netbook to the dvd writer built in to our home pc?
Many thanks in advance for any help:)

If you were to create a backup/recovery disk for his netbook, how would you use it to restore the system as it doesn't have a drive ?Freebies you don't really need can be given to your local Hospice Charity shop so they can raise funds they desperately need. Pass on your good fortune :A0

The IT Dept at work said that it is possible to copy from the disk onto a usb stick if we ever needed to do that. I only have a couple of flash drives and they are expensive to buy, so would rather keep the back up on dvd or cd for now.0 -

Thank you, can I back up his whole system to this in the event that we need to reboot it?0 -
Use goodsync to backup all valuable documents and folders onto an external drive.
Usb external drives are cheap. £10 for an 8gb one here http://www.amazon.co.uk/Flash-Memory-8GB-USB-DRIVE/dp/B001AEBYO6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1267736574&sr=8-1
