advice needed please, the past few days a smell has been coming from my washing machine (drain smell). I've descaled it, cleaned draw & cleaned around rubber door seal. But still smell there
I was everyday on a 40 degree wash mainly & leave door & draw open after. Any ideas how to get rid of it would be grateful
Thanks in advance

Try removing the powder drawer and giving it a good scrub. Manky stuff collects in there!
Then run the washer empty on a 90°C cycle to give it's insides a good clean.
I do this periodically to prevent smells and dirt building up.Here I go again on my own....0 -
mine did this last year! Tried all what you did and the 90 wash. In the end I cleaned the outside drain that your washing suds go down with Jeyes Fluid- Hey Presto! Try it- cos in my case the smell was coming back into the machine from pongy drain!:o0

I agree with susieb - the drain is the most likely source of the manky smell.0

Shouldn't be the external drain. As the waste pipe from behind the machine - should have a water filled trap in it (even if that's achieved by a slight upward slope rather than a formal trap) - to prevent smells coming in?
But - if the machine is connected to a multiple waste manifold under the kitchen sink? That sometimes gets grease and muck in an unused portion of the manifold and which is above the trap level - so the smell backs up (but you should get a whiff near the sink waste as well)? Only solution is to strip all the manifold down and clean / degrease it.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
I`ve had the same problem this past few weeks,we`ve cleaned out the u-bend, used a hot cycle with just soda crystals in, still there slightly.I read on that website that the main problem is washing most things on 40 wash with non bio powder, so i bought some Persil to do the towels etc on a 90 wash and problem has more or less gone.

Get it checked out as soon as you can....I had the same problem of the washing machine absolutely PONGING of rotten eggs and it seemed to fill with a bit of water as well if I left it a day or so.
I was advised that the bit which stops water from going back in may have broken.
However the husband of someone I know (who does all sorts of plumbing jobs) came out and looked at it and discovered the waste pipe had slipped right down and somehow (can't remember how he explained it) waste water from ALL parts of the house (yes that includes the bathroom  _pale_ ) was coming back. I was horrified as you can well imagine!
It was fixed in minutes and I cleaned the machine out using boil wash & descaler type stuff and have not had any problems since.
I'm not saying it IS that which is the problem but, it's got to be worth checking out.Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

Thank-you for all your replys. I gave the washing machine 2 hot washes & used a dishwasher tab & the smell seems to have gone, hopefully for good.
Thanks again, I'm very grateful to you all
