Out of date....

Good afternoon people,

Ive found a jar of chicken tonight sauce in my cupboard, its dated May 06, Im pretty sure its ok to use but, would you? (I am still learning how to cook from scratch but no point in wasting what I already have)

I think honey and mustard sauce should be the next thing I learn, yummy.

I'd use it, no probs. I'm assuming, though, that date is a "best before" rather than "use by", so advisory, really. I have a healthy constitiution, and it's years since I've been laid up with tummy bug. Wouldn't feed it to small children, the elderly, or anyone under the weather, IYKWIM.

Personally, I would use it as these dates are just a guide on long-life products like that and it's "best before".

I've used loads of things past their 'best before' date & lived to tell the tale. so I'm another who'd use it :)

Im definatly in the eat it camp, seen a lot of tv progs recently with people saying how much perfectly fine food is being wasted because people will not eat food after the 'best before' date. If it said 'use by' i would be more carefull, but best before is exactly that, better before May 06, still ok after!!!!!

this is really topical.....i have just come back from a little car boot sale..had loads of cheapie bargins.. kids clothes.. bits n pieces etc.. but came across this and just had to buy it.....its an unopened green's of brighton chocolate cup cake mix.. looks like its 70's.........for 30p......i love my old vintage items....anyway.. but this was a great talking point......so i dont think i want to risk baking this one...:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

but seriously.......will either try and sell it on ebay, or donate it to a museum or something...like st fagans which has all types of houses right through the ages.....fantasitc....plus its free to get in........its a museum of welsh life...so loads of old bits like this as well in the old shops there......
