bank charges lowered???

Hi all,
I sent the letters to my bank, the halifax, regarding reclaiming all the charges they had charged me over the years. Yes, they put me on hold til all was dealt with last year then kindly sent me a letter to say they would not be carrying on with my claim as the level of the fee charged is not reason for finding them unfair.
well today i found a letter on my mat from the halifax, immediately i recognised it, a charge for unpaid dd- damn - i have not had a charge for the past yr and this bloomin month i got one - well i was surprised to see that when i opened it the charge was £15.00 ??
well now i am confused?? how can the charges go from £35.00 to £15.oo in such a short time? if they were saying it was ok for them to charge £35 why have they all of a sudden lowered it to £15.00? is this guilt? is this to shut all up?
what's going on?

RBS/NatWest also lowered their charges so no, it isn't guilt but I would say that Government influence and the fact that high bank charges are so unpopular may have come into the equation more than any other factor.0 -
What type of account is it? Halifax/BoS have changed their charging structure on all of their accounts in the last few months.Getting married 02.08.14

Maybe the banks have seen the light and felt that there maybe a case for fighting the charges at a later date as now most banks have lowered their charges.
Halifax may have dropped their charges from £35 to £15 but Natwest has dropped theirs from £35 to a staggering £5. Not that i'm applauding them for it.
Maybe the argument of lack of competition had them feeling a little too uncomfortable and figured that a substantial drop would be prudent.
The government is now on the case of the energy company's (after 3 years of pleading from the public) for having very, very little competition between them which is effectively monopolising the market. Maybe the banks want to be given some slack after their monumental !!!! ups in bringing down the world economy.
Who knows?0
