honda civic clutch and warranty issue

i have a 06 2.2 diesel Civic over 12 months ago i noticed occasionally revs particuarly in 5th would suddenly rise quickly and drop again if putting foot down. i reported it to Honda main dealer. they looked at it and did not find a problem (i believe they reset some software on it) a couple of months later just before the warranty ran out i reported the same issue as it was still happening intermitantly. once again they were unable to find a problem.
so the warranty runs out and i just get on with it as the problem only happens when accelarating hard say 5th gear 50 mph - 70mph (my driving i do most the hard accelarating in 3rd and have not noticed a problem here) its not been a major problem. having recently stumbled on this forum i noticed other owners have had this problem and it's the clutch of course.
i have since taken it back to Honda who after road testing it with me demonstrating the problem agree the clutch is slipping. it is out of warranty and they have agreed to pay £1000 to wards the cost leaving me with £650 to pay they say this is a good will guesture and as it is a wear an tear issue it isnt covered by the warranty anyway. i asked if it is normal for their clutches to fail after only 50,000 miles and they said no it is down to my driving.... i drive mostly motorways and drive sensibly from checking out honda forums it would appear others have had this issue...... but where do i stand should i accept there offer or should they do the whole repair free of charge????

accept the offer is wear and tear not helped by dual mass flywheels0

Loads of posts on clutch issues on the 2.2
Had the same myself (car still under warranty) took it in and they said they could only get it to slip under extreme exceleration
Anyway they wont swap it for free but knowing it costs well over a grand you can see why they wont just change unless its packed upHave a nice day0 -
DMF's fail due to two reasons - poor driving and crap idea!
I'd be able to get the job done for 600 quid to be honest, so their "offer" of £1000 towards it is a joke LOL!
Everyone says they are a good driver, but how many people do you see at roundabouts/traffic lights creeping forwards or holding the car on the clutch? FAR TOO MANY!!
Cars should have a warning buzzer that sounds when you hold tghe car for more than 1.5 seconds on the clutch.
also, too many people think of the clutch as a foot rest...!0 -
£1650 seems an excessive amount to replace a clutch, part costs approx £300, plus 3 - 4 hours work for a half decent mechanic.0

Ask Honda to hand you over that £1000 they are saying as goodwill gesture. Then go to an independent and get it fixed at much lower cost.
£1650 for clutch replacement is way too much! More most cars, it costs £125-£200 only.
PS: These prices are for normal clutches. Not sure if Dual Mess Flywheel has anything to do with price.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -

i did try to get them to pay for another company to do the job Mr clutch quoted £475 plus aprox £350 for the fly wheel (less than the £1,000 goodwill guesture they offered) they were not prepared to pay a non honda dealer....after several calls i managed to get them to pay for the clutch and fly wheel ect i have to pay labour£291 so not ideal but better than £650 they originally wanted0

Do they make crap at Honda? My old Golf 1992 vintage is coming up on £100,000 miles and still on its original clutch...as for costing £1600 notes to replace...ROTFL....Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Its not that they make crap - its cars with bad drivers at the wheel who abuse the clutch.0
