Which OS is this? Do you let it continue the disk check? If so does it report any problems or errors?

Scan for viruses and malware - see the named sticky thread at the top of this forum.

Are you running Windows XP without service packs and have a HD that has been partitioned to its full amount that is over 120GB?

If that's the case, back your data up NOW and then either update to SP2 and low level format and start again or keep it as is and partition in 120GB multiples or less. (You will definately still need to Low Level Format and start again, your data is more than likely going to become corrupt).

I had this with a 160GB Maxtor drive that was partitioned to 160GB before it was sent to me.

Could be possibly a faulty stick of memory - ive had similar issues before.
If at first you don't succeed - destroy all evidence that you tried.

    Who told you that?

Have you tried the support from Seagate?

    Download the HDD diagnostics tool.

    Which OS is this?

    :D:D:D

What other OS gives a dreaded blue screen, with an error and no explanation of what is actually wrong or how to fix it.
