Belkin Broadband Router Problem

I have just moved and since setting up the F5D-7632-4 Belkin router I have problems connecting. Each time the computer is turned off I have trouble reconnecting to the web. The solution I am using at the moment is to log in to the router and resave the connection settings (even though these have not changed). It then connects again. Can anybody suggest a better solution to this? I am using Firefox/ Thunderbird and XP.

not sure why your having to do what your doing but maybe a reset of the router settings and reconfigure everything again would fix the problem. do you leave the router on all the time or switch it off when not in use?

I'm having exactly the same problem with a netgear RP614 I just set up.
I switch mine off when the PC's not in use and evertime I turn it back on I have to reset it and load the settings again.

So I'd be very interested in finding a solution.

Check to see if there are any firmware updates for your routers. and update them, if it is a common fault then the new firmware should fix it.

Since I posted it's been behaving! I leave the router turned on all the time and just turn the computer and monitor off when I'm not using it. I'll try upgrading the firmware in a moment. Thanks for the advice.

    Hi
In your router settings, go to the Lan Settings is the DHCP Server ticked, Also check the Idle time and set it to 0, then I would Restart Router and see if these make any difference.

I've just bought the Belkin 7633 and I find it excellent, I've been tweaking the SNR settings, got it syncing at 7456 and its increased my download speed, and appears very stable with no resyncs.

    Hope this helps

I've upgraded the router firmware, was the first thing I did when I had it set up. Might be a stupid question but how to I change the Idle time settings? I can't see any reference to it on the settings page.

I'm having to do the opposite, leave the modem on and I can turn the router off all I want. Problem being that they're both plugged into the same mains, which I turn off of a night. And I don't have another plug closer.

Ah well, what can ya do. I'll find someway around it.

    Hi
From router page, Go to Connection Type, click Next and on the WAN > Connection Type > PPPoA Interface Page, you can change the Idle Time Setting here.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about the Belkin, but I've just read your using a different router, can't help on that one, don't have it, but I'm pretty sure you will have a setting somewhere for it, its usually with your PPPOA, VPI etc when you first set your router up.

    Hope this helps

Thanks wonderfullife. The DHCP server was on and the idle time set to zero when I checked. The firmware was also up to date. It does seem to have stabilised now and is behaving fine now. It is possible that the electricity went off for a moment last night as there were storms here
