do I need to check my credit/fraud files?

Hi all,

not sure whether this is the right place for this - but a couple of weeks ago I applied to open a new share broking account. They declined me and sent me a letter saying that I did not meet the 'required criteria' - and that they used a credit ref agency 'callcredit', and 2 fraud prevention agencies: cifas & synectics solutions.

seemingly I can look at their files for a fee (£2 for callcredit, £10 for each of the others) but before I do I wanted to ask the collective expertise as to whether or not it was worth it since I have gone on to open a share dealing account with someone else no problem and have never had problems in the past (I even had an account with the guys that declined me last year - but didn't get round to funding it and they closed it down). I managed to get a mortgage late last year as well - I'm wondering whether it might be just that company and because I have recently moved - don't want to pay for all those checks to find out that there's nothing to worry about?

Thanks very much for any thoughts or experience you can shed on it,

Gus

if you've never look at it before, it's well worth paying the £2 fee to get a copy of your report.

I've never bothered with CallCredit though - only ever been interested in Experian and Equifax. Sticky at the top of the forum on how to obtain your reports.

thanks for your reply. do you think it's worth paying the £20 for the other two fraud agencies?

Nah, you just got a standard letter that references them. Buy a few beers with the money instead.

If you'll be able to find out the reason why your application was declined, I guess it will be worth to know. However, I would suggest to just use CIFAS cause the information they may have will most likely the same with Synectics.

Have you checked your credit information with Equifax and Experian? They will most likely have the same information. But it's still up to you.

Thanks for your comments - will probably go for the free experian trial and then cancel to see what is lurking on there. won't then bother with the other ones unless I see something strange.
