Airline Refund Rip Off

WiseInvestor wrote:in fact just transferred elsewhere. Ryanair were involved in a high-profile case last year for charging a wheelchair passenger extra for the services rendered. Ryanair argued (quite reasonably IMO) that why should everyone pay for a service they're not using? Indeed, disabled people receive extra state benefits to 'compensate' for their condition (by this I mean the extra expenses incurred) yet the complainant didn't think he should pay more. He won.
What an 'interesting' view of the world you have.0 -
I had a similar problem with LastMinute.com, but I did not wish to refund my booking, but simply change a name.
The holiday had originally been booked in myself and my ex's names, but I needed his changed to a friends as I didn't want to waste my holiday. t cost me about £7 to get through to LastMinute.com on the phone, where I spoke to an operator who couldn't understand me and wouldn't let me do DPA checks as they had my address as their headquarters address! Eventually they said they would change the name, but only for a £90 fee.
I told them where to shove it, and instead e-mailed my hotel direct (who changed the name for free), and phoned EasyJet, who charged me £70. Still a complete rip off, for a name to be input differently, but a £20 saving!*proud to be dealing with my debts*0 -
Sorry Altarf - what part of my view do you find 'interesting'?
Do you believe the 'haves' should pay twice for the 'have nots'? I've already paid once through higher taxation (ie extra benefits - which I don't begrudge), but should I pay more for my flights too? Clearly some wacko, politcally-correct Eurocourt believes I should.0 -
I just believe that people should stop and think for a moment, before raging at the world.
In the instance you quoted you clearly believe that disabled people should not expect that Ryanair (who use brand new aircraft) at Stansted (a new purpose built airport), would have considered their needs. After all they have been 'compensated' by your higher taxes and can pay to overcome any design issues that prevent them getting to the aircraft. The fact that a wide section of the population require assistance to the aircraft, many of which have not been 'compensated' does not seem to feature in your argument.
As you can guess I don't hold your views and I am glad that the 'wacko, politcally-correct Eurocourt (sic)' agrees with me. Perhaps if society considered the needs of the disabled at the design stage, then your taxes might be lower as less 'compensation' would need to be paid.0
