PPI complications - advice please

Back in the mists of time, I took out a joint loan with PPI with my then wife. As part of divorce settlement, I was given responsibility for the loan which was less than a year into its term. At the time, I tried to get her name taken off the loan but the bank refused - trying to get me to take out a new loan to pay it off, which I refused.

Some years later I have written to reclaim the PPI (thank you martin lewis!!) as it was missold to us. The bank have agreed to pay up but have sent a form for me and the ex wife to sign. I do not want to give 1/2 money to the ex as after all she never paid a penny towards the PPI - but draw the line at forging her signature. How should I deal with the bank now? I don't want to let the bank off the hook but equally I think it is unfair, given that I had sole responsibility for the debt, that she may effectively get another large sume of money from me.

I think you will find that as it was in joint names the only way out would be for her to write and say that she wants the money paid to you. I think that is the only way out of this. Sorry

    Hi
I'm afraid I found myself in a similar situation last year, no matter what we did Northern Rock would not remove my husbands name from the loan. So I found myself asking him to sign a letter stating that the whole cheque was to be made out to me, but giving him 'his share' of the cash.... good luck
  • Thanks for advice. In the end I spoke to A&L and explained situation. They asked that I send in all evidence (court order etc) and they would get legal section to consider the case. The outcome was I GOT ALL THE MONEY!!!! I am so glad that I kept key docs from my divorce and thank you Martin Lewis!
