Sorry but I don't think it is a stupid question, there are quite a few topics on it and have spoken to the dealership I got my car from and they are calling me back tomorrow.
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

So none of you would ever think to cancel an insurance you don't need then?

    Back to the question.
What type of gap insurance was it?
If it is an annual policy, look at the cancellation terms, some offer a pro-rata refund subject to a fee, others have a %, but if it ends in March either you have just renewed it, so you will be in the 14 days, or it's just about to run out, so you're ok there as well.
If it was a longer term, for several years, again they should have a refund schedule, but it may not be alot after 3 years, or it could be expired anyway.
Best way is to find the policy t&c's, phone them up, then send a confirmation letter.

I just paid a lump sum when I brought the car and got given paperwork and also sent a certificate. Thank you for your helpful post.
