Faulty TV Amazon - Return option

Need some advice please folks
I bought a large 42 Panasonic TV (TXL37G10) in June 2009 for my mother from Amazon

The picture on the freesat tuner has started to develop a fault, bearing this in mind she has contacted Panasonic, who in turn have arranged for a local engineer to give the TV the once over

He has stated that he has got 3 other Panasonic (Freesat) TV’s in the workshop with the same fault (a faulty picture, crackling, distorted etc) he is supposed to be coming back with a freesat card, not sure what this is going to do ????

Almost 99.9% certain this is not an aerial problem, although the signal reception on some of the channels is not as good as others (the aerial man has been contacted and all seems well on the aerial front)

However he never mentioned what cause of action they where taking to fix this problem on any of the TV’s

It’s been over 2 weeks now since the engineer came out and the telly is still playing up
Have we got any chance with returning the TV to Amazon, (as its only 9 month’s old) or must we wait to see what the engineer comes up with.

Any advice would be appreciated.

A repair is the most likely thing. Did your Mum go through Amazon to get to Panasonic. Amazon should be dealing with it really as they sold it to her.

    Thanks,
don't think she did, she rang Panasonic direct, they then advised there'd be a charge to come out etc, I advised her to tell them where to go with the charge as its under guarantee

however my concern is I've not herd of other people with this TV requiring a Freesat card (the freesat tuner is built in to the tv) and its been 2+ weeks since the engineer came out

I think the 'freesat card' the engineer is talking about is part of the tv, not a user replaceable card like a sky viewing card.

But I could well be wrong.

KeithP I think is correct..it's most likely to be an internal circuit board. Does your Mum have a contact number for the engineer that you can call to confirm?

That's what I don't understand, as I have read up on most of the reviews on Amazon, no where is this card mentioned, either in the contents or in the reviews

suppose will have to wait and see what the card develops

just seen the post from gordikin, the engineer is the local Panasonic dealer, as recommend by Panasonic
went round to me ma's today, asked about the TV, she said she'd not herd from the engineer, wouldn't think it would take so long to get a "card

    thanks again

Think of the freesat card in the TV being similar to the graphics card in some PC's, ie a seperate replaceable circuit board? That would be my thoughts.

I know! When you originally mentioned a 'freesat card' I only thought of a circuit board type card! Wasn't until KeithP posted that I understood your confusion myself!Hopefully it'll be sorted soon. I'd give the engineer a quick 'friendly call' if you can and ask how long he reckons, based on his experience (if he's got another 3 TV's with the same problem he should know!) it'll be for delivery of the replacement 'card'. Perhaps then you'll get an idea of a repair timescale...for both you and your Mum's sanity's sake!
