Landlord not received notice

I wrote to my landlord in the middle of last week, giving him notice to end my tenancy at the end of March (coinciding with end of rental period).
I sent it first class recorded delivery as so often recommended by this site.
Looking at Track and Trace on the GPO website, he was not in when they tried to deliver the letter and he has not yet collected it in response to the card which was left.
I will ring him tomorrow evening if he still has not collected the letter from the post office, but where does this leave me with regards to giving notice? Does it mean that I have to pay till the end of April as he's failed to receive or then collect the letter before the end of Feb - something completely out of my control?
Thanks in advance.

I'd suggest the notice is not served yet. I never get why people advise serving by recorded delivery as the letter may not be collected, especially if the recipient knows it's due and doesn't want it. I thought the recommendation was to hand deliver with witness and/or post from two separate post offices getting proof of posting.

Usually when it is recommended to serve notices by recorded delivery we do point out that the tenant must ensure that the item is received. The end of February was Sunday when there is no post, sending in the middle of last week was cutting it too fine IMO as Royal Mail don't guarantee next day except on Special Delivery.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

I'm afraid the simple answer is yes - LL hasn't received notice.
If you have good relations, then you may be able to explain/reach an agreement to leave end of March, but if he's unhelpful and insists on his rights, then your tenancy will continue till end of april.0 -
If it is the end of a fixed term AST, then there is no requirement for notice anyway.0

Many thanks all. I had suspected that might be the case.
I've been here over 12 years with no problems at all, so hopefully there will be some scope for negotiation.0
