My Saab has gone beyond repair :(

Well, just want to cry (but I wont).. my Saab, that has been great until the bad weather came, has finally died on me... First the battery needed replacing, then the radiator wasnt doing its job.. Today I priced up a new exhaust £203... not to mention the slow puncture... So I was driving to a garage earlier and heard a clunk... Then smoke came billowing out the back and the smell of burning rubber... What was it? Fan belt, torn to ribbons!

Sat and waited for a recovery - £70 to bring me home, (found that after I called RAC to rescue me, £150 they wanted!! huh)

So now I am gonna pack in my car days for a while, every penny I have, I'm spending on it!! Gonna use the buses and getting a push rod!

So moral of the story.... To people who are on the breadline, think twice about the car... and 2, I would get the RAC or similar sorted at the cheap online rate than wait until your on a grass verge on the motorway in the dark :(

Its a Saab 900 N Reg... I think I might get about £150ish from scrap yard, it should have a cat on it and its got alloy wheels.

I know what you mean somech... Like you say things can only get better.. wish it'd hurry up... My life is getting more dismal by the month.. Wonder what I'll lose in April, probably my marbles haha

A saab would be a fairly odd thing to be running on a tight budget unless you really really love old saabs. Theoretically they're quite reliable, but when things go wrong, they're going to be more expensive than say a focus.

Winters can be harsh on old cars and it does sound like unfortunately a lot of the common things have went wrong at once.

I would have been a member of the AA / RAC already though, rather than having to pay a heavy call out charge.

Also, you may want to 'learn' what noises to watch out for on a car and what things are significant and should be addressed in advance rather than waiting until they fail - that can often help with budgetting. For example, i'd suggest it very unlikely the fan belt just snapped without any warning at all - often they will 'squeal' when lights, heater, etc are on first. Same with the exhaust, there would have been tell tale signs that was on its way out.

doesnt really sound like much wrong , im sure someone will buy it and use it on the road again

    so its a tyre (£20 for a part worn ) fan belt (£5 ) and a exhaust pipe ?

does it really need a whole exhaust system , have you rang around as fast fit places will try and con you , you may get away with part of the system or a small garage may be able to weld it up for cheaper

really dont think its ready for scrap yet
