Can we get a refund of a deposit paid?????

Hi,
My dad brought a new caravan at the caravan show at the birmingham nec on saturday. he paid £1000 deposit and signed a contract which did say that the deposit was non refundable but the guy who sold him the caravan said it would be ok if he was to cancel.

On monday he called to cancel and was told to put in writing, which we done, then today we heard that if he cancelled he would lose deposit. (when calling cc company money left account today too)

I have heard that because it was away rom the normal place of business you are entitled to a 7 day cooling off period. But i don't know how to go about looking into this, can anyone help?

Was he signing a credit agreement? If so, then there is a 14 day cooling off period since as you say it took place away from the normal place of business.

If it was just a deposit with the rest to be paid on delivery, then I don't think that applies. The 7 day cooling off period in those cases only applies if the sale is made in your own home or place of work.

No it wasn't a credit agreement. I don't have the information here that he's signed but searching the internet i have found that if purchase has been made at a trade fair for example then you have a 7 day cooling off period i don't know whether this is still valid even though he has signed something???

Yes he can claim it back if the value of the deposit was not a genuine pre-estimate of the loss likely to be suffered by the dealer in your dad not proceeding with the purchase.
