Why is it that everything breaks at once?? My garage door has finally broken. Managed to get it closed to after 2 of us and an hour so think I def need a new one. I know its dependant on size but just had a quick browse and it seems supplied and fitted from various companies is anything from £500 upwards!!! OMG!! I coulnt do it myself but are they easy to fix ? needs to be one thats fairly secure as well as the garage is a fairly weak pint to house and if a burglar gets into garage he/she could spend as long as they wanted out of sight getting into house from side

What has broken, the actual door or cable?0

thanks for that.
well to be honest its been run into a couple of times (not by me) so a bit dented. There has always been a huge gap all around it so garage is as cold or colder than outside. What happenend yesterday somehow was that one of the cables came off the spindle at the top then when i tried to open it the side bits came out of their runners and the door went sideways . eventually did get the thing working with my sons help but now dont want to open it in case it happens again. Its about 20 years old and is as secure as a paper bag basically. Luckily the garage is too small really to park my car in so for the moment I am not using the garage door at all0 -
Can second the wickes doors - 3 of my family have used them and install/work absolutely fine.0

it probably just needs some adjustment. thats a sign of the rollers coming off the runners.
security wise is nowt to do with the old door. all garage doors are pretty insecure.
you need to add extra bits such as these:

Give me his address, it takes me a couple of hours to tension the springs and line the locks up properly, let alone get the old door, off, get the old frame out, fit the new frame and then the door.
My own door has gone, I'd pay someine a couple of hours to fit it for me.0 -
When our up and over garage door came unhinged, we called a bloke from the Yellow Pages. Can't remember what he charged, but it was about £50 I think.
