My hotmail is sending out e-mails

Hi there,
Really silly question but e-mails have been sent from my hotmail address to some addresses in my mailbox (most were returned as undeliverable). Is this likely to be a virus, a trojan or something malware needs to fix.
The e-mails are offering "I have a good offer" type of thing.
I have AVG & run this fully every day or so & am running Malwarebytes Anti-malware at present....
But as I'm not sure what I'm likely to have I don't know what else to do - any suggestions (please be nice, I am trying...)

It doesn't necessarily mean your account or computer has been compromised. It's trivial to spoof the senders address when sending spam, so it could be that your address was used as the sender, which means any delivery errors (or complaints) will end up in your mailbox.0

Thanks Darksun - I must admit it was only a few addresses from my mailbox. but the said items were in my sent items - would this also be expected?

change your password, I would think as they are in your sent box someone has got into it or possibly a virus, but one of the experts will be able to tell.0

Ah, well if it's in your sent mail, that means your account has been compromised. Change your password, I'd also advise changing the password anywhere else you use it, and checking any services that have that email registered.0

Without a sight of the full email headers it is not easy to make an assessment.0 -
The header is simply Re:
& the message is

My Mums email did this, I advised her to change her password, delete all her emails and to move to Gmail, just to be safe.0

Its happened to me before also, I think hotmail has security issues, as its the only service that has been compromised for me...[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -
