HI

I have just sold my car and have been paid for it in full.

It is SORN and needs to be trailered away so the buyer is arranging for someone to collect it for him.

I am wondering what I do about the V5 and signing it over to him as he wont be present at collection.

Thanks

It is in your interests to make sure the DVLA know you are no longer responsible for the vehicle.

Have you seen their webpage on this?

Could you post the 'new owners slip' to the new owner, of perhaps leave it in the glove-box?

Whatever you decide, make sure DVLA know about the sale.

Btw, SORN is irrelevent. SORN is not transferable. Another DVLA webpage explains this...
Buying a vehicle that has a SORN

If you buy a vehicle that already has a SORN made by the previous keeper, that SORN will come to an end on the date you buy the vehicle. You must make a new SORN if you are keeping the vehicle untaxed off the public road. You cannot transfer a SORN.

Thanks for that. I have seen the website you mentioned and it doesnt give the advice i need.

As i understand it the new buyer has to sign the V5 with me and then I send this off to DVLA. Giving the buyer the small green bit.

But he wont be present to sign......so I am confused as to what to do...

Thanks for the SORN info though.

When I sold my last car the buyer forgot to sign the v5(all other details were filled in) so I sent it in unsigned with a note explaining what had happened and it went through no problems.

    Terryya, that's good advice.

Also OP, it might be a good idea to get some sort of receipt for the car from whoever takes it away from you.
