Cancelled contract...without us knowing about it!

Can any regular reader of the gas/electricity thread please point me in the right direction of any previous threads regarding what action I can take against Company XXXX, who apparently have approached my current supplier, Scottish Power to cancel our existing contract so that we can transfer over to Company XXXX.....without either my partner or myself knowing anything about this?
I have had to set up my account again with Scottish power as they were automatically going to cancel our supply.
We have not signed anything from any other supplier, and I am aware that rogue applications are made regularly without the knowledge of customers, I would like to follow this through with the guilty party
Thanks in advance

1st you must go thru the relevant cheating suppliers complaint process, then you can refer it to the regulator0

The best advice would be to contact Company XXXX and ask to speak to their sales complaints team - they will then investigate how this happened (for instance, if they think you agreed via phone, they will listen to the phone call, or if they think you agreed door-to-door, they will pull up the paperwork). If they do not have a valid contact, they can stop the transfer (along with co-operation from Scottish Power), else they will send you back to Scottish Power as though you never left (if you do end up leaving whilst this is sorted out). If they DO have a valid contract, then they will be able to prove it, but either way if you haven't agreed then it's highly unlikely they can
One thing I must say is you don't need to physically sign anything, as applications can be made after agreement to a verbal contract over the phone. But at the same time, they'd be able to prove it as calls are usually recorded so I wouldn't worry too much.
Scottish Power did the right thing as if they had not cancelled your contract they have may have stopped you leaving even if you wanted toHope that helps!

Thanks for the advice, have found out today via Scottish Power that British Gas were the culprits, I have taken this up with the complaints department at British Gas
Some more advice here for anyone else affected

Whilst you have the option to contact either supplier, I would have been inclined to contact SP as they would probably be more inclined to support your complaint as they are otherwise loosing out."Now to trolling as a concept. ....
