What's the difference between cash and emergency cash ? :p Surely cash is cash. Haha.

And I wonder why so many people carry stamps in their wallet? I've never been able to fathom this. I keep my stamps in the office room cupboard, right next to the envelopes.

The idea is the emergency cash is never spent (except in an emergency). Say if I was a silly person and spent all my money on beer and ended up unable to afford the taxi fare home, I still have the money (a £50 note hidden in a safe place in my wallet). With it being a £50 note, it is impossible for me to spend it accidentally and not realise what I was doing.

More importantly, however, I have had problems in the past with snowballed bank charges taking away all my income, leading to the point where I was unable to pay for anything (including food). The £50 in this case would be enough to cover my essentials (i.e. food, the rest can wait) for some time. I should never, ever be in this situation again, but after what happened I am reluctant to entrust all my money to the bank, and let them control my life in the way that they did.

About the stamps, I don't tend to send a lot of letters, so when I do write them I never can find where I put the stamps. I also tend to write letters in different places as well (work, home, uni) so having the stamps in my wallet is convenient (at least, in my case).

With it being a £50 note

Ah, I see! I accept that my assertion that "cash is cash" is untrue: a £50 note is indeed a different kind of cash, the use of which comes with the distinct disincentive that the recipient assumes you are a criminal.

    Good thinking!
