Options
Hello,

My dad currently lives in London and uses his Freedom pass regulary he's 69 and is moving to Co Durham next week.

Is there an Freedom Pass scheme in County Durham if so anyone know what it is called and how to go about getting one?

Thank you

AFAIK he can use his Freedom Pass anywhere in England (buses only unless there are special arrangements).

Not sure of the rules if he moves - whether he must apply for one in his new area straightaway or can use the old until it expires.

T&C for London Freedom Pass include:

    7. Freedom Passes are issued to eligible older and disabled people whose sole or principal residence is in Greater London. If the passholder no longer has their sole or principal residence in the Greater London area or the pass is no longer in use then the pass must be surrendered to the following freepost address: FREEPOST FREEDOM PASS RETURNS

Thank you so much for your replies and the link :-)

I thought he could use it anywhere in England but as he's moving next week I'll need to return it and sort out a new one for Durham.

    Thanks again everyone :-)

It can be used throughout England but because your local authority contribute to the cost it is only fair that the LA of the main residence is the one which picks up that element of the bill and not a former one which no longer gets your Council Tax.

It might be best not to return it until you have the Durham one sorted - I'm sure a few days won't matter.

To get one in Durham he will need proof of his new address BTW.
