EEC Home Security

A salutory warning beware of EEC bearing gifts a marker pen and or a shredder.

My Sister and I have recently acquired from my elderly uncle (80yrs of age) his folder containing all the services he has purportedly requested from EEC Home Security since early May 2008.

First came a survey and advice that a Personal Care control panel linked by the original BT line to EEC's call monitoring centre along with wrist and neckcord fobs along with an optical heat and smoke detector would give him safety and security should he fall or in case of emergency.

Then their was the extended warranty and monitoring routine some 4 months into a 12 months arrangement my uncle suddenly agreed to 5yrs with costs over £ 2k

To our dismay we have discovered a trail of handwritten dulpicate invoices followed by formal letters used by the Sales Advisor to obtain orders for equipment and works which at best were unnecessary at worst appear to be a catalogue of confusion and a very costly experience for very little benefit.

He too fell foul of the old Periodic Inspection of Electrical installation routine with losts of words and figures mixed up with risks and dangers some £5K later we are still awaiting the 6yr insurance backed warranty.

Only last week my uncle mentioned in passing that they were calling to discuss CCTV cameras to front and rear of his property extemely sophisticated system great value at circa £3k To the salespersons dismay and shock my uncle had somebody present when he called. Despite my uncle always declining anyone to be in attendance. The sales person almost immediately made his excuses and left with promises to call later that evening presumably when my uncle would be on his own. True to form he turned back up when my uncle was alone but for once the salesman was advised he would think about it and confirmed by telephone to EEC the next day he did not want the equipment.

I will formally be writing to EEC instructing them to arrange any visits through the family in order to control access/cold calling and any further advantage being taken of my uncle.

Apologies for the long thread of post but sometimes it's good to thump the keyboard.
