I don't want to replace them for 50w bulbs. Are the cheaper (~£5) energy saving ones actually any good? I was under the impression they don't normally provide enough light for use as main lighting.
I just replaced the wall lights in one of my bedrooms with the 7w GU10's from Tesco, instead of the 50w ones. The lights are metal and were hot as anything. Much, much better now we have the 7w ones. They cost £5 each and they stick out by at least an inch, but as both the bulb and light is silver, it looks okay.
As it's in a bedroom, the 50w ones were too bright anyway. The energy saving ones are nicer as backround lights and still bright enough to read by.0 -
I have six maxilux zenigata GU10 in my kitchen and am very happy with them. They cost me just under £22 each but will payback and more as only 4 watts each.0

I've got one of these as well. Good quality of light, however at 170 lumens they are equivalent to ~20 watt GU10.0 -
Has anyone got any experience with the Philips ledino lighting range?
They do 7.5w leds which are dimmable and are supposedly equivalent to 35w halogen.
Very expensive though,

you may find that the energy saving ones wont work with a dimmer switch. mine didnt,. they were either on or off. i was also told at that time by an electrician that energy saving bulbs of that type shouldnt be used in sockets with dimmer switches. dont know why though.0

Amazon have dropped their price on the Exergi GU10s 4.4W
The warm whites are now £17.55 including delivery which is cheaper than anywhere else!
The positive reviews on Amazon match experiences written here.

Worth taking a look at whatbulb.co.uk. They have some good deals on GU10s. However, make sure you check the length of the bulbs, as may are longer (by nearly an inch) than standard!0
