I'm a student in debt and i'm trying to get a higher paid part time job as i can only earn so much from waitressing. i have been looking into call centre jobs as i can do almost thirty hours and its a higher wage sooooooo can pay back more debt yes? Nope, cos most of them are credit checked. i dont understand why i'd need to be credit checked to sell insurance!
when i graduate i plan to be a teacher, will they credit check me for that too incase i steal the kids dinner money for my crack cocaine habit?!!!!!!0 -

Because insurance companies are regulated under FSA = you need to be credit checked. Most insurers do this, along with banks and other financial institutions.
You'll be enhanced CRB checked for the teacher job, but don't worry about nicking the dinner money just ask the weird lad, in the corner with the hat on, for his stash or you'll grass him up2010 - year of the troll

I start a new job shortly for a big bank. They wanted to credit check me, asked about bankruptcy, IVAs, CCJs etc. I told them up front that I had defaults on my credit file dating back to a period of redundancy a few years ago.
The checks all went through ok (and I was very worried), so I think you will be fine just as long as you are honest.DMP mutual support thread member 3730
