Hi, I did my comparisons over the weekend and made a switch for both my gas and electricity.

Paperwork has started to arrive this morning, and I notice that the DD they want to set up is for £84 per month, great.

However, we have been paying £178 per month, and whilst I appreciate we have been paying arrears (when old supplier merged gas and elect bills, they put £200 elect bill as a credit, instead of debit, onto the dual account), surely this just isn't enough.

I am glad for the much lower amount, but I really don't want to find myself on the other side of next winter with a whooping increase again.

How much should I increase it by ?, and can I just manually change this on the DD form that they have sent ?

I presume/hope that you have your annual usage in Kwh?
Two ways to work out your DD amount:

Go onto energyhelpline and do a comparison, giving your existing tariff as the one you have just switched to, when completed it will show your existing annual amount, divide that by 12 and there is your approx DD amount.

You know your unit prices from your new tariff. Use them to work out your annual bill and divide that by 12.Don't forget to include any discounts given. Hopefully the two results will be the same.

Just off the top of my head, energyhelpline said my new supplier would charge £117 per month. I think I am inclined to go with this (easier that reworking it out), and thanks I did use kWh, and I remember thinking about which letters were lower and which were upper case (stupid I know).
