Is This Quote Too High? (window removal)

Hi all!
Was wondering if there are any builders out there that can give me an idea of if the quote i have received is too high or not. the job I want done is -
the removal of a kitchen window (64 inches x 45 inches), the resulting hole bricked up. The inside is going to have kitchen units attached to it so i would need it to have ply attached first and then plasterboard on top (that's what the builder said so that it will be easier for me to attach the kitchen unit). The external wall needs to have a concrete window ledge grinded down to bring it in line with the wall and then rendered so that i can paint it to match the rest of the outside wall.
The builder has just called and quoted £475. Does this seem right?
The reason i ask is because i posted the job on the myhammer site (first time using it) and i have had 2 other builders quote me £299 and £298 respectively, although they have not requested a visit to look at the job whereas the higher quote builder did come and look at the job.

    Hi,
I think the 2 quotes you recieved where a fair price, but i cant understand how someone can give a qoute without seeing the job. You have to be carefull with quoted like these, because you may end up with a much higher bill.
It goes something like this after they have started the work:

Oh i have to charge you extra for ............ because i didnt know i had to that.
We have to put extra studding in as the units are going to be heavy so i will have to charge you more.
Can you see what i am saying.

The builder that called to meet you and check out what you wanted to be done would be the guy i would want to use, but i would contact him and explain that you have had 2 other quotes that were £175.00 cheaper.
Tell him you would be happy for him to carry out the work if he would consider dropping his price to £350.00.
If he will not drop his price, then get a few more quotes. They are normally free so you have nothing to loose.

Remember its always better to use a recommended builder.

    Hope this helps you!
