Business account charges

Hi, I took a business course via the job centre 4 years ago and one of the conditions was I had to open a business account. The account was joint with the training centre and to my knowledge I would only be charged for any transactions.
The business didnt take off but I did not close to the account because I was told that If it remained inactive for a period of time it would be closed automatically.
Just by chance through contacting the bank to get my student account overdraft increased I was told that because I have a business account I would have to go through my business manager. So upon doing this I am now told that I owe the bank £160 in charges for an account I have never used. And even though I have been getting charges in 4 years I have not had one single statement notifying me of any changes to my account.
They say that this is because there have been no transactions, but surely the charges themselves are transactions and in that case were they going to just let the charges run into thousand or even millions?
The welcome letters I have also state that charges are only for any transactions not for just having the account. Im confused but not yet angry until I go down there.
Any thoughts on this?

You would get business account charges for having the account. I think you need to write to the bank formerly asking them to close the account and explaining your circumstances and ask for a written response. I can't see them not closing the account with no charges need paying by you based on your specific circumstances.0
