Any charities that would want a TV?
Are there any charities that would want a TV. Bought a new 42" LCD after Christmas and so have our old 28" CRT to dispose of as it hs been sitting in the spare bedroom for about 2 months now gathering dust. It works perfectly, and 5 years ago was a top of the range set.
I can take it to our local recycling centre, but it seems a shame to skip it if there is any charity shop etc. that could sell it or make use of it. I dropped into a couple in the town on Saturday, but both said they couldn't accept donations of electrical goods. I'm quite willing to drop it off when I am passing if there is a place that would like it or is it just an example of a technology nobody would have any use for any more.

I would much rather not use Freecycle, Freegle or whatever it is called. When we lived in Shropshire, the group was excellent. There were loads of people who seemed bona fide, But the one round here is awful. I have offered things 3 times now, and each time been inundated with about 40 odd Emails all from people who are quite clearly collecting stuff to sell on. I must have received over 30 Emails all from peopel with a "handicapped son" or some similar sob story, all of whom had had that very item break last week. Funny how the sample people had different things break right after I posted it.0

Contact your local volunteer centre or CVS and ask them to send out an email to all their contacts asking if a group would like it.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

If you have any Care Homes, or hostels for the homeless in your area, they might accept it. Alternatively check out the British Heart Foundation website as they have various furniture recycling centres around the country.0

LOADS of places would love your TV! You can search for your local domestic violence shelter here and ring and ask them if they can use it either for a refuge or to give to a family moving out of an abusive home.
You can also ring your local oxfam, they may not take it themselves but most decent oxfams know a local shop that will take electrical goods. There's always somewhere it can be used for.
The bottom line is if you ring enough places, you'll find someone that will take it! You could try old people's homes, dog sanctuaries (for the staff or for fundraising, not the animals obviously ) hospices, charity shops, homeless charities...the list is endless. There's always some charity or good cause that would love it, it's just sometimes you have to ring round0
