Moaning over 5 minutes

I think it's very funny.
Those moaning about the 5 minutes here and there are basically just inching their way closer to their P45.
What if it was seven mins? or 12 or 19. At some point employees have to take a stance. If not certain unscrupulous employers would walk all over them.
When did moaning become a sacking offence?[/QUOTE]
It isn't....
However some relevant threads on here imply the employee is going to try to make a fuss (ie work to rule or even seek 'advice') over the employer asking them to come into work on time or stay a touch later to finish a task
Assuming you are not gods gift to the office, work for a less than enlightened company and are not in a position to seek a better job (like you know, there is a recession on..) my advice in the current climate is simply to pick your battles.
Drawing attention to yourself in this way is not likely to endear you to management. And at the end of the day, it will be they who decide who may or may not be in the firing line if cuts have to be made. :eek:Go round the green binbags. Turn right at the mouldy George Elliot, forward, forward, and turn left....at the dead badger0 -

I've always worked well over my job description, including extra hours where necessary, and showing that commitment and initiative is part of what enabled me to move up. In return I have usually been trusted to pretty much manage my own time because people knew I wouldn't just disappear leaving work undone. I will confess that I'm a habitual latenik and usually end up doing 9.30 to 6 or thereabouts... but everyone knows that I'm the last one out of the office, not just the last one in.
The only situation where I've had a problem was working with a complete and total w***er who used petty timekeeping issues as an attempt at control. He didn't get far as I simply got him to sign off the time I'd done and he looked very silly when he tried to dispute his own signature a few months later.
In my field they will often specify on the contract whether you are expected to work set hours (and so shouldn't expect or be asked to alter them) or professional hours (you're expected to get the work done, and are trusted to manage your own time around it). Perhaps that clarification would be useful elsewhere!

I've worked in not so good jobs, middle of the road jobs and blooming brilliant jobs but it is all the same to me, if a job or task can be finished off completely then I would rather stay that extra 10 mins or so finishing it off than leaving it for the morning.
It's a pride thing for me....We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
