MBNA will take the DD regardless of interim payments (which I prefer to be honest)

Be careful with this as Santander have an unusually short limitation time before the DD is cancelled! You may find if you forget one month that they don't take the DD and inform you that they cancelled it.

Ask them and double check what the limitation is - I believe it is either three or six months with them

I've heard that, but a good point! I'm 3 months in at the moment, so I'll be keeping my eye out!
